Daniel Norgren
Swedish born Daniel Norgren is a unique character on the alternative music scene with his raw one-man garage band. His music is rough and soulful with ways in the expression that could be traced back to the pre-war blues and gospel, early garage rock and jazz. He jumps ruthlessly between genres and moods but will not call himself a Bluesman, rather more of a musical Swiss army knife.
“This is not just a one-man band in the ordinary style. This is almost a full drumset, a wild blues guitar driven by a self hypnotized man and a voice that blows your hair off. Daniel Norgren truly is a remarkable composer and an irresistible performer.”

In his early teenage years, Daniel got his first guitar from his father that he’d once found in a recycling container. It was old and crooked with a big crack running across the back.
On this he learned the basics and kept developing a rough and hammering playing style that almost takes your mind back to Son House’s drunken guitar.
“I’ve always been a big fan of simplicity. To me there’s where the real magic is, in the raw and unpolished expression. I’m always looking for it, and there are good examples of music and recordings that are made from it, like folk music and the good old jazz and blues.”

Daniel Norgren’s first released album was named Kerosene Dreams and came out in January 2007. It contains 15 gypsy/cabaret/country ballad/circus flavored songs written by Daniel who also plays every instrument himself, except for violin. He used some homemade / modulated instruments, among them the big Horn-organ and an acoustic bass built from two guitars.
The second album is named Outskirt, and was recorded with borrowed musicians from bands like Kamchatka, Rambling Nicholas Heron and Filipsongs.
“Most of the gear, microphones and recording boxes that we use in the studio are old and sometimes quite unreliable which affects the sound and feeling in just the way I want.
Outskirt was recorded with a full band and the opening track “Who’s knocking” was recorded live and put down on the first take. We tried to treat all songs like this, with a short take-off.
I never tried to do a blues album, and I don’t think that´s what Outskirt is, but that’s probably the easiest way to categorize it”.

“Outskirt” was originally released by Superpuma Records in Sweden in 2008 and picked up by Cool Buzz for a Benelux release in 2009.
